There is such a rich history of railroading in Cobleskill and much of Schoharie County! We are honored to display, share, and teach this heritage to our visitors at the Sunshine Fair every year. For 49 years, we at the Schoharie County Model Railroad Association have dedicated ourselves to preserving the legacy of railroading both real and model through our displays. We look forward every year to seeing both new and familiar faces who come back every year to see the progress and look for the new additions to the scenery and memorabilia. And this year will be no different…... We’ve put a lot of time and effort over this winter working on building improvements, adding a ceiling, and installing new LED lighting which will blanket the new layouts in beautiful, soft light! But that’s boring!! Coming into April now and warmer days, it’s crunch time to start on the model railroads themselves! We had a very generous donation several months ago of a local gentleman’s layout, which included several scratch-built buildings from “Old Cobleskill” including the RR station, the Commercial Hotel that used to be where the parking lot is now, D&H Coal Company, and several others. So, we’ll have a beautiful little stretch commemorating the “Hey-Day” of railroading here in town! Many more scenic elements are in the works as well, including a winter scene and a beautiful trestle spanning a deep gorge. In addition to this, we have big plans in the works to celebrate our upcoming 50th Anniversary, so stay tuned and check in with us any Thursday evening to learn more about the club and possibly joining in the fun!
