The 42nd Infantry Division Bank Of The NY Army National Guard Saturday August 14th 2 PM
The 42nd Infantry Division Band, under the command of Warrant Officer Ethan F. Wagner and First Sergeant Leslie G. Saroka, serves as the musical ambassador for the 42nd Infantry Division and the New York Army National Guard. The Division, originated during the First World War was nicknamed the “Rainbow Division” by Colonel (later General) Douglas MacArthur after he commented that the component regiments of the Division “stretched over the whole country like a rainbow.” Composed of skilled musicians, the 42nd Infantry Division Band performs a variety of musical genres, ranging from symphonic/orchestral to contemporary pop music. Though the mission of the 42nd Infantry Division Band is primarily a musical one, the members of this band are Soldiers first and foremost and in 2005 were deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. In addition to its deployment in 2005, the Band served on State Active Duty to assist in the clean-up efforts following Superstorm Sandy.
